What's My Skin Type?

We developed the VU product line to address most skin types and one skin condition often mistaken as a skin type: dehydrated skin. Knowing where your skin fits within these segments will guide you toward products that perform better. To help you determine your skin type, we present two methods to ensure that VU’s unique formulations work together for your optimal skin repair and care:

Blotting Sheet Method

This method is faster and can be effective in differentiating oily from dry skin types only.

  1. Pat a blotting paper gently on different areas of your face.
  2. Hold the sheet up to the light to determine how much oil is visible. If the sheet picked up little to no oil, you most likely have dry skin.
  3. If the blotting sheet reveals oil from the forehead and nose areas, your skin is most likely normal to a combination- oily or combination-dry (dry if your cheeks are tight and even flaky).
  4. Finally, if the blotting paper is saturated with oil, it is most likely you have oily skin.

    Bare-faced Method

A little more involved; however, this method will give you a deeper understanding of your skin type.
    1. Cleanse your face thoroughly with a mild, sulphate-free cleanser like our Cleansing Gel or Cleansing Foam, and then pat dry gently.
    2. Do not apply any additional skin care products like moisturizers, serums or treatments for 30 minutes.
    3. Now, examine your cheeks, chin, nose and forehead for shiny or parched areas.

    Normal Skin

Feels smooth without signs of flaking or oiliness.

    Dry Skin

    Feels tight and dehydrated.

    Very Dry Skin

Has dry, flaky areas in addition to skin tightness.

    Combination Skin - Oily

Usually has an oily T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) and is normal everywhere else. Oily areas may exhibit enlarged pores, signs of breakouts and blackheads.

    Combination Skin - Dry

Usually has an oily T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) and is dry everywhere else. Oily areas may exhibit enlarged pores, signs of breakouts and blackheads.

    Oily Skin

Looks shiny, may feel slick to the touch and has frequent breakouts.

    Dehydrated Skin

This is a temporary skin condition where skin is lacking water and often mistaken for a dry or oily skin type. Dehydrated skin results from environmental irritants and/or internal body malfunctions like side effects from medication, poor diet and smoking. Most VU products fight dehydrated skin.

We recommend finding your natural skin type and using any of recommended regimens from My Regimen Builder.  Because the roots of skin dehydration can vary so widely, you may need some further adjustment in your regimen for best results.

Use My Regimen Builder to match your skin type and fight off the environmental irritants around you for your best results.
